Pope Francis Takes Possession of His Cathedral - The Octave of Easter/Divine Mercy Sunday

Pope Francis

Today Pope Francis takes possession of his Cathedral, the Church of Our Saviour, St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist at the Lateran, also known as St. John Lateran.

It was there that we had the celebration of the Mass of Thanksgiving following the Canonization of St. Kateri Tekakwitha last October.

O God, who in your providential design willed that your Church be built upon blessed Peter, whom you set over the other Apostles, look with favour, we pray, on Francis our Pope and grant that he, whom you have made Peter’s successor, may be for your people a visible source and foundation of unity in faith and of communion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER
(OR OF DIVINE MERCY)

God of everlasting mercy, who in the very recurrence of the paschal feast kindle the faith of the people you have made your own, increase, we pray, the grace you have bestowed, that all may grasp and rightly understand in what font they have been washed, by whose Spirit they have been reborn, by whose Blood they have been redeemed. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
