Wednesday & Thursday of the 3rd Week of Lent - Novena to St. Joseph on Parliament Hill

This has been a very busy couple of days, so today's blog post is quite late; tomorrow's will be too.

Give to your people, our God, a resolve that is pleasing to you, for, by conforming them to your teachings, you bestow on them every favour. Through Christ our Lord.

NOVENA TO SAINT JOSEPH
FOR CANADA--6:15 AM DAILY
ON PARLIAMENT HILL

On Monday morning, in the dark and the cold (it was much brighter last Saturday before Daylight Savings Time began), I joined a dozen serious pray-ers (men, women, children) in the novena to Saint Joseph (his feast is Monday, March 19) on Parliament Hill for the only day my schedule allows me to attend this devotional exercise of prayer for the protection of life and the family in our country.

They pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, the Bishops of Canada and the intentions I have entrusted to them.  We prayed the Novena prayers, reflected on the joys and sorrows of St. Joseph as the statue of St. Joseph is paraded from the eternal flame, around the perimeter under the Peace Tower and back to the flame (where the lights helped us to read the prayers and the closing song, "Great Saint Joseph".

This patriotic prayer exercise is simple but meaningful.  Perhaps some of those enjoying the school break might want to come out to one of the remaining days (the Novena ends on March 18). The prayers are complete by 6:45 and one returns home slightly buoyed by a unified purpose of supporting the great cause of our day: protection of life and the family.
